Mauritius is located in the South West part of the Indian Ocean, north of the Tropic of Capricorn and 855 kilometres east of Madagascar.
Mauritius has a population 1.2 million, consisting of people from Indian, African, Chinese and French origin. It is a multi-ethnic society living peacefully for 50 years of independence. Mauritius has a democratic political system following the Westministerial model. The population is well educated with a literacy rate of 89.8% and the languages spoken are Creole (local dialect), English and French. The GDP per capita is around USD 10,000.
Mauritius has a diversified economy engaging in sugar, agriculture, textile, tourism, manufacturing, fishing, information technology and financial services.

International banks are well represented in Mauritius and the local banks also are of good standards and have nothing to envious to the international ones. Mauritius is always ranked amongst the best countries in survey, such as ‘‘Ease of Doing Business’’, ‘‘least corrupted nation’’ and ‘‘Most Democratic Nations’’.
